Mein Anderes Ich – Mi otro Yo (2008)

My other self.
Topic: Identity.
8th grade at Ana Siemsen School, Berlin Neukölln.
Duration: Project week. January 2008.

Rationale/objectives: Many residents of the Neukölln neighborhood in Berlin, an area inhabited by a large percentage of Turks and Arabs with few prospects for advancement, place great emphasis on their physical appearance and material possessions. Therefore, the main objective of the strategy was to make young people see the difference between their being (individuality) and their physical appearance. In this way, they could recognize their potential and differentiate between their individuality and their physical appearance. This would strengthen the identity and confidence of many of the young people.
Drawing their self-portrait would help them explore their individuality, as drawing is the tool that would allow me to achieve the objectives.
What do my clothes say about me? What clothes do I like and why? How do others see me and how do I not want to be seen at all? What clothes do I feel comfortable in and why? What makes me different and unique?
The students‘ work was presented at the exhibition.
